EXPG Lab logo
"EXPG Lab" is the sub-division of EXPG which includes a selection of the best students across the schools in Japan. Those students are exclusively chosen to participate in live performances from LDH artists, appear in their music videos and perform at dance events and competitions as part of their training. They can also be placed in teams and disivions with specific concepts in order to further improve their performance ability.
To be selected for the Lab, EXPG students have to participate in an audition once a year to renew their candidacy.[1] Thus, an annual class with a new lineup is introduced every year around June.
History[]
EXPG Lab was established in June 2017.[2]
In October 2017, the year of its establishment, 4 project groups with different concepts consisiting of students from EXPG Lab were introduced: KIZZY, PATTY, SEBACK and Crasher kidz.[3] The units ceased activities in 2019.
On June 30, 2023, it was announced that 4 development divisions had been created within EXPG Lab, and in accordance with the objectives of each divisions, the elite students selected from the approximately 11,000 students of the expg group would be placed in one of them. The divisions would be: "THREE S from EXPG Lab", "CDL academy", "EXPG Pro" and "EXPG JrLab".[4]
On November 7, 2024, several changes regarding the divisions were revealed.[5] "EXPG Pro" had been renamed to "Lab Dancers", "EXPG JrLab" had been divided by gender into "Jr Lab Boys" and "Jr Lab Girls", and a new, all-female division named "Lab Girls" had been established.

EXPG Pro logo (2018)
"Lab Dancers", formerly known as "EXPG Pro", was established independently in June 2018 as a training category for EXPG students particularly skilled in dance to develop their skills even further and become professional dancers, choreographers and instructors. At the end of 2018, the category merged with EXPG Lab.
On July 3, 2022, the division was revived as a seperate program again and introduced five new students.[6]
On November 7, 2024, the division was renamed as "Lab Dancers".[7]

THREE S logo (2023)
"THREE S from EXPG Lab", established on June 30, 2023, is a development division for EXPG students who are "future stars".[8] It was named by EXPG STUDIO supervisor Nakatsuka Yuta (GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE).
The name "SSS" comes from the "highest rank" which is represented by three stars or "SSS" and means "shining like a STAR (SHINE) and being cool (SWAG)".
CDL academy[]

CDL academy logo (2023)
"CDL academy", established on June 30, 2023, is a joint project between EXPG STUDIO operated by LDH JAPAN and CDL entertainment, a label headed by ØMI. It is a development division for aspiring artists to take the first step toward their dreams through various trials and curriculum.[9]
The project was created after ØMI was impressed by the many talented participants in the girls division of the iCON Z ~Dreams For Children~ audition, and the previously created trainee group CDL ∞, consisting of contestants who did not pass the audition, also became part of the division.
Lab Girls[]
"Lab Girls", established on November 7, 2024, is an all-female division.
EXPG JrLab[]
"EXPG JrLab", established on June 30, 2023, is a division where younger students can develop their individual personalities and strengths, strengthen their own talents, and work to become the best of the next generation.
On November 7, 2024, the division was seperated by gender into "Jr Lab Boys" and "Jr Lab Girls".
